This year 2023 is considered to be the best year for mangoes because insects and storms could not harm mangoes this year. In Kaliganj upazila of Satkhira district, a total of 629 big and small mango orchards have produced mango bumpers. According to the Upazila Agricultural Extension Office, this information has been revealed in Kaliganj Upazila, a total of 527 hectares of land has been cultivated. Also, local Barga farmers have grown their own mangoes with the initiative of many small and large gardeners. Earlier, consultation meetings were held with mango traders in different areas of the upazila regarding mango cultivation and marketing calendar. Under the chairmanship of Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra conducted an exchange of views with the mango traders coming from different parts of Kaliganj upazila to collect and market mangoes and check the correctness of mangoes. Upazila Agriculture Officer Wasim Uddin welcomed the meeting. In the meeting, the marketing mango calendar was announced by Satkhira District Commissioner and Agriculture Extension Directorate Satkhira expressing the unity of the decision. From May 12, 2023 local varieties of mangoes including Gopal Govinda Bhog, Bombay, Golap Khas, Baisakhi will be available. Himsagar mangoes from 25th May 2023, Langra mangoes from 1st June 2023 and Amparali mangoes from 15th June 2023 will be marketed. Upazila Nirbahi Officer Rahima Sultana Bushra said that all those mango traders who sell unripe mangoes and cheat the consumers will be brought under the law and necessary measures will be taken. Apart from this, the Chairman of the Union Parishad will organize a discussion meeting of the area-based Union Parishad of the mango traders to create widespread awareness among the mango traders. It should be noted that the mangoes of Satkhira along with Kaliganj upazila already have a reputation in the market of the country. The reputation and demand of Satkhira mangoes has spread beyond the borders of the country to European and American markets. Satkhira mango ripens earlier due to soil and weather conditions. Due to its unique taste and quality, Satkhira mangoes have been exported abroad for the last few years. Govindbhog, Langra, Himsagar and Amrapali mangoes of the district are exported to Italy, Germany, England and France. Kaliganj Upazila Senior Agriculture Officer Md Wasim Uddin said, this time in Kaliganj Upazila there has been a bumper crop of mangoes. Meanwhile, under-processing is going on for export of mangoes to European countries. Mr. Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Deputy Commissioner of Satkhira said, “The date has been fixed for breaking ripe mangoes from the trees. Any attempt to market them with carbide will be taken legal action including the destruction of mangoes. Meanwhile, raids have been conducted in various places of the district and mobile courts have been conducted during the marketing of unripe mangoes. done. The campaign will continue throughout the mango season.”
